Antique Victorian-1930s Jadeite A Jade Kwan Yin figurine statue - gemstone rock

Antique Victorian-1930s Jadeite A Jade Kwan Yin figurine statue - gemstone rock

A carving from the Victorian era to the 1930s at the latest.

This is a Kwan Yin, Goddess of Mercy from Buddhist mythology.

The Jadeite is untreated natural rock, mined from Earth and carved by hand.

See photos for colours, the colour is light and with multiple tones of very vivid bright chromium green, the statue has natural flaw lines that rock has and those flaw lines have a brown colour to them.

I am unsure of the exact origin I.E. who owned this art when new but I imagine it would have been owned by high society as having such a piece commissioned back then would be hugely costly due to the lack of machine tools and the notorious necessity of an elite carving skill to achieve such a result.

The carving shows a rough mottled wavy effect over the surface as this was done without power tools, just hand tools.

Reproductions are common, originals such as this are not.
